RIP: Hal the Central Park fox

Like many of us who ended up in New York, Hal appeared out of nowhere and survived for a while.
They don’t know what killed Hal, who died as he was being tagged before release.
RIP, Hal. We were rooting for you, you wild thing.
Story and pix/videos of Hal’s Central Park adventure, and his untimely demise here.

Coyote, old Hal was a Coyote. Which doesn’t make his death any less sad, in fact I thought we ought to have left him to roam there, and brought in a few of his brothers.
Sure, we might have lost the occasional early morning runner, and a couple of miniature designer dogs to the pack, but that’s Darwinism in action. And can you think of a more organic method of keeping crime down in the park? What potential rapist, killer, or mugger would want to lie in wait for his next victim in the bushes with a pack of man eating (potentially) coyotes on the loose?
Yeah, I know crime in the park is supposed to be way down these days, maybe I just like the idea of wild coyotes in the park. A couple of Bobcats couldn’t hurt either.

Statistics in New York show that we lose less people to coyotes than to bad hot dogs, so I’m all for it!
