Keep America Beautiful!
Look familiar?
I was only 6 years old, but I’ll never forget Iron Eyes Cody’s very beautiful 1971 “Keep America Beautiful” public service announcement. If you’re too young to remember it yourself, click on the image for the video.
Get Iron Eyes Cody’s book, “Indian Talk” from the Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center, here.

I like this. Gratitude is sometimes a neglected emotion for irreligious folk like me. We might feel it every day but… who to thank? A consciousness of just how dependent we are can help. Our parents, obviously, friends, past generations for the knowledge we have and the cities we live in, the food chain, the sun, Tim Berners Lee.
Thanks!

You’re welcome!
I just look at what I’ve got and feel my heart swell with appreciation, and I just say, “thank you.” If anyone (up there?) is listening, all the better, but I don’t mind just saying it to my apartment for being so beautiful, and thank you to my food for being so delicious, and thank you to my friends for being so great! I try to be worthy of all the great things I am privileged to have by taking good care, which I think is thanks enough already.
I think it’s best not to be enslaved by the kind of gratitude that becomes a debt, rather than an appreciation. It’s too hard to measure gratitude, and we just end up hating the people who never feel they’ve been thanked enough!
